Think Twice: "Take a Beat" – a Crime Prevention Project by the Jethro Centre

The Jethro Centre | NICRC

A crime prevention project called Think Twice has been devised and piloted by at the Jethro Centre, Lurgan.

The Community Relations Council supports the Jethro Centre through its Core Funding Scheme.

Carole Kane, Good Relations Project officer at the Jethro Centre, initially brought together youth workers from Taghnaven Youth and Community Centre, a CRJI staff member, and PSNI officers in workshops as part of Good Relations Week.

In recent months, drama facilitator Matt Faris was also engaged in design and facilitation of the project which involved theatre as well as visual art techniques. Contribution to the pilot was also supported by PCSP.

The pilot ran in three youth venues in the Lurgan/Portadown area in the first quarter of 2024: Taghnaven Youth and Community Centre, Lurgan YMCA, and People 1st in Portadown. Each run engaged different contexts and age groups to test the process and content. There was a lot of learning, as well as recognition that there is a huge potential for taking this model to the next level (dependent on funding).
