Fermanagh and Omagh District Council's Good Relations are organising a free online webinar on Monday 22 February 2021 to celebrate International Mother Language Day.

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the United Nations in 1999 and has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multi-lingualism.

The interactive online session entitled “Promoting Diversity and Integration through Intercultural and Multilingual Communication” takes place at 3 PM, and aims to promote linguistic and cultural diversity by exploring topics such as effective communication where there are language barriers; understanding communication differences across cultures; understanding and promoting multiculturalism; and more.

The session will be delivered by Dr Francesca La Morgia, Assistant Professor in Language Studies, NUI, Maynooth and Assistant Professor in Linguistics, School of Communications, Ulster University.

Dr La Morgia is also the Founder and Director of Mother Tongues, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes multilingualism in Ireland and is a passionate advocate for social inclusion and migrant integration.
