Barefoot and Fancy Free - #GRWeek18

The day was a great success and we had over 600 people from right across the City from all sections of the community who attended the event at The Playtrail. Some of the highlights - we had a special performance from Liam O Maonlai singing along with Inishowen Gospel Choir. We had a wonderful performance from Releasing Rhythms involving African drumming and a professional African dancer who came from Scotland to perform at the event. The band BASORK, a ten piece Balkan group closed the show. To entertain the kids we had a range of cultural crafts;

  • Chinese tea ceremony by Irish Wushu Association,
  • Highland Dance workshops by Sollus Highland Dancers,
  • Traditional Drumming workshops by Londonderry Bands Forum,
  • World record breaker Ryan Tracey from DUFF Balloons balloon modelling,
  • Circus Skills from In Your Space
  • Traditional storytelling in The Wonder Wagon by Teknopeasant!

The finale to the event was a Firewalk in the Auditorium involving 18 people, including Liam O Maonlai walking on hot coals to a large audience of family & friends.

The feedback from both the public and performers was extremely positive…one quote “This was a wonderful event. It was brilliant! Thank you all so much!”
