Community Relations Council Press Release
A new chair and board of the Community Relations Council is about to start work and the outgoing Board and Chair have thanked the staff, The Executive Office and stakeholders within communities for the work they have shared over the last five years.
Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Board, Chair Peter Osborne said:
“On behalf of the outgoing board of the Community Relations Council I want to thank the staff, The Executive Office and all of the stakeholders and community organisations that we have worked with over the last few years. We feel privileged to have been part of that work and optimistic for the future of the Community Relations Council given the changed relationship with The Executive Office.
We extend to the incoming Board every best wish for the ongoing challenges in supporting and funding the reconciliation work that so many courageous people within our local communities are so good at delivering.
We are just over 20 years in to a peace process that will take 50 years or longer. Many big transformative policy decisions still have to be taken but the ground is being laid within and between communities, up and down the region.
Northern Ireland can and will take its place as a 21st century European region; and that is what people clearly want. The Community Relations Council, with the new arrangements agreed with its sponsor Department at The Executive Office, can significantly help shape and build that intercultural, inclusive and generous society with the help of everyone in this community.”
Pictured at their final meeting are members of the outgoing CRC board with Dr Mark Browne and Andy Cole from The Executive Office.
