In 2018, Big Ideas is leading First World War commemoration programmes for community groups and schools to discover and commemorate diverse stories from the period through exciting and creative activities with free resources and funding. A suite of informative, creative and educational free resources are available (on request), as well as an expenses scheme for small-scale funding (up to £100) to take part.
Groups can choose one of the following programmes through which to discover and remember World War One:
The Unremembered: World War One’s Army of Workers
Take part in this nationwide project to remember the Labour Corps from around the world – you can discover unknown local heritage and plan your own commemorative event.
Tull100 – Football Remembers
Celebrate and commemorate Walter Tull, the first black heritage officer in the British Army and a professional footballer, with activities such as football matches or letter writing.
Trailblazers: World War One’s Inspirational Women
Celebrate the lives of inspirational women from the First World War and identify contemporary Trailblazing women in your community.
Remember RAF100
Mark the formation of the RAF by commemorating air service personnel who lost their lives in World War One with creative activities.
Motherhood, Loss, and the First World War
Discover the stories of mothers and their bereavement from the First World War with creative activities and letter writing.
The projects are funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) with additional funding for select projects to work in the Home Nations from RAF100, through the Chancellor using LIBOR funds, and a National Lottery grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
