Today is Universal Children’s Day – designated by the United Nations to commemorate the 1959 Declaration on the Rights of the Child and the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. The NI Community Relations Council would like to take this opportunity to state its commitment to supporting children and young people to thrive in a fair, safe and shared world. For their sake and all our sakes, stand against sectarianism, racism, paramilitary style attacks and the hatred of difference that causes violence and conflict. Protect our children and young people. #UNCRC
Commenting, Chair of the Community Relations Council, Peter Osborne, said:
“I’m proud of the children and young people here; they are an asset to our shared community and this region. On Universal Children’s Day we should respect our children and support their development. We should reject abuse, including the child abuse visited on children by vigilantes in paramilitary style attacks.”
