Global Conflict | The Human Impact

The University of Chicago, with The Pearson Institute for the Study and Resolution of Global Conflict, and Queen’s University Belfast, with The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security, and Justice, are convening Global Conflict | The Human Impact, bringing together scholars, leaders and practitioners to address the human cost of violent conflict by identifying important lessons for conflict resolution through academic research and experience.

Gathering in Belfast, Northern Ireland on August 23 and 24, 2018, Global Conflict | The Human Impact will bring together leading voices from around the world to discuss strategies for reducing the prevalence of violent conflict and its tragic impact on people around the globe.

This conference offers a distinctive opportunity to assess two decades of lessons learned from the peace agreement, as well the daunting challenges and human toll of the greatest refugee crisis since World War II, driven by continuing conflicts in many nations.

Cultivating a robust debate based on a rigorous, data-driven approach to solving problems, Global Conflict | The Human Impact will focus on:

  • Northern Ireland: How Peace was Built
  • Colombia: The Path to Peace
  • Policy Responses to the current global refugee crisis
  • Impact of the refugee crisis on individuals and families
